A great deal of the work that has gone into the construction of Casa Hogar Jeruel has been done by volunteer groups from numerous churches around the United States. These groups have done everything from helping to build the dormitories where the children sleep to helping build the church where the children and the local community members learn about Jesus. The orphanage would not exist without the contribution of these groups. Unfortunately, it is been more difficult recently to get volunteers to come and work, due to a combination of the poor economy and some of the unrest that occurred in Mexico last summer. It is understandable why there has been less support, but the needs of the children have not diminished. If you or your church group is looking for a good outreach mission, please consider visiting Casa Hogar Jeruel. You may get more information about such a trip by contacting us through this website.

Worship Services Generally Don't Have Many Chairs
Isn't it interesting how in the United States people complain if the pews aren't comfortable enough or the temperature isn't just right? At the church at Casa Hogar Jeruel, there is no climate control, and there aren't even enough chairs for everyone. Most people stand throughout the service, yet their enthusiasm and passion are undiminished. They are just happy to be there. Still, it would be nice if people at least had a place to sit. Also, Casa Hogar Jeruel sometimes has the opportunity to earn some money for the orphanage by renting out the facility to groups needing a place to meet. Both for the congregation and to earn much-needed money, it would be very helpful to Daniel if he had some basic chairs for people to use.

Casa Hogar Jeruel Needs Simple Chairs Like This One
Daniel has sent out a request asking for 300 chairs for the church at Casa Hogar Jeruel. Now that he has his green card, he is able to travel in the United States very freely. He has stated that he is willing to come get the chairs using a trailer, if someone has some extra chairs that they could donate. He is not looking for fancy chairs; he sent the picture on the left as an example of what he needs. He simply needs some basic foldable chairs so people have a place to sit. If your church or business has some extra chairs that they no longer need, please contact us to discuss the possibility of donating them to a worthy cause. You may use the contact form on the right, or you may call Daniel directly using the phone number also provided on the right. Thank you for any help you can provide, and please keep Casa Hogar Jeruel in your prayers.

Children Playing at Casa Hogar Jeruel
It goes without saying, Casa Hogar Jeruel always needs money to pay bills. Mexico does not have the social welfare programs to help orphaned children like the United States does. Thus, Casa Hogar Jeruel is almost entirely dependent on the generosity of churches from the United States to help support the effort. Typically, Casa Hogar Jeruel requires a minimum of $8,000 per month to pay for basic expenses, though they usually only raise $2,500 to $3,500 per month. A breakdown of the expenses for Casa Hogar Jeruel is provided in the table below. This may seem like a lot of money, but consider the fact that usually there are around 40 children living at the orphanage at any given time. This means Casa Hogar Jeruel must support a child for $200 per month. Prices in Mexico are lower than the United States, but $200 per month is not much money, even in Mexico. Unfortunately, at the rate that they currently receive funds, Casa Hogar Jeruel must support a child for less than $100 per month. Obviously, Casa Hogar Jeruel needs to find a way to raise more money.
| Monthly Expenses | |
|---|---|
| Food | $2,000 |
| Toiletries | $300 |
| Employee Salaries | $4,200 |
| Gasoline and Vehicle Maintenance | $400 |
| Education | $200 |
| Maintenance of Facility | $400 |
| Medical Care | $200 |
| Regular Clothing/Uniforms | $300 |
| Total: | $8,000 |
Recently, Daniel received his green card and is now able to start a business in the United States. In order to raise money for the orphanage, he has decided to try to operate a second-hand store in El Paso with some help from his family. He is hoping that churches might donate items that he could sell in order to raise money. If your church would prefer to donate items rather than money, please contact Daniel using the form on the right.
Casa Hogar Jeruel needs more than money or donated items, though. The work and witness groups that come every year from various churches are vital to the orphanage. The work that these groups perform helps keep the orphanage running, and the time spent with the children is a powerful witness of God's love for them. Casa Hogar Jeruel needs as many groups as possible to come help with this mission. Unfortunately, the number of groups that come on a regular basis has dwindled recently, most likely due to the increased difficulty of traveling there because of the changes in the laws requiring a passport. If your church is considering supporting a mission, please pray about supporting Casa Hogar Jeruel. If your church decides to come to Casa Hogar Jeruel, please contact Daniel to find out exactly what kinds of items are most needed.
Daniel periodically sends out a newsletter that decribes what's happening at Casa Hogar Jeruel and explains any current needs. Most of the information in the newsletter has been put in either this web page or the news and events page. Still, if you wish, you may view Daniel's original newsletters by downloading them using the links below. If you would like to be included on the mailing list for these newsletters, please contact us using the form on the right.
Providing for the needs of the children who live at the orphanage is very expensive, even in Mexico. Unfortunately, Casa Hogar Jeruel usually struggles to raise enough money to cover expenses. Please help us by making a donation. Your generosity will help ensure that Casa Hogar Jeruel will not have to turn away a child in need.
But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 19:14
